SCDOT will start the southbound portion of the Interstate 77 Bridge Rehabilitation Project on Friday, April 14 at 9 p.m. with the closure of access to I-77 southbound from Bluff Road to I-26.

The northbound portion of the I-77 Bridge Rehabilitation Project began March 24 and is on schedule to be completed by April 2.

SCDOT is rehabilitating a total of 17 bridges on both sides of I-77 between the I-26 interchange (mile marker 0) and Bluff Road (mile marker 5). To minimize traffic disruption, work is being completed under two separate close and detour operations.

Nine northbound bridges and eight southbound bridges are being rehabilitated. Construction activities include the removal of old concrete, pouring new concrete spans, and grinding new concrete to create a smooth driving surface.

SCDOT is repairing and replacing hundreds of deficient bridges across South Carolina as part of the agency's Strategic 10-Year Plan to improve the state's roads and bridges.

I-77 Southbound Closure and Detour Information
I-77 Southbound will be closed from Bluff Road to the I-26 interchange from 9 p.m. on Friday, April 14 through Sunday, April 23 (9 total days). SCDOT encourages drivers to plan their detour routes in advance. Real-time traffic and road closure information is always available at 511sc.org and on the SCDOT 511 mobile app.

The signed detour route is about 20 miles long, using S.C. 277 to I-20 West, then taking Exit 64-A for I-26 toward Charleston. Refer to the Interstate 77 Bridge Deck Rehabilitation Project website.
