Summary: The Chamber's January Issues Forum featured elected State House representatives who were asked their thoughts on numerous issues facing our business community. Topics included: the State's $2 Billion budget surplus; repeal of Act 388; tax reform; business licensing fees; boards and commissions; earmarked funds for special projects; highway construction; and the sale of Santee Cooper.
Throughout the year, you can expect the Columbia Chamber to:
Work with elected officials to review the business licensing structure such that businesses do not receive negative unintended consequences.
Work to ensure the expenses of providing serves are appropriately allocated by all who use the services.
Continue to promote transparency and accountability in all of the work performed by the elected leaders for the budget, board accountability, special projects, and budget appropriations.
Encourage legislators to consider comprehensive tax reform to for greater economic development opportunities and reduced burdens on taxpayers.
