The Leadership Columbia Class of 2022 (LC22) is pleased to announce its partnership with Transitions Homeless Center. As part of the Leadership Columbia program, each class chooses a project that makes an impact in the community. This year's class project is a comprehensive undertaking that includes physical enhancements to three spaces and two distinct marketing campaigns. The class specifically tailored the project scope to meet Transitions' most pressing needs.
"We are excited to have Leadership Columbia come to Transitions and help our clients," said Craig Currey, President/CEO of Transitions. "They have some great ideas and projects that will really help our clients and make the surroundings better for them. Their members have been coming into the facility and learning more about what we do to help those who are homeless. It is a win-win for everyone."
The project scope includes installation of a basketball court and reconstruction of garden beds in the existing courtyard. LC22 will also paint the Day Center and develop training materials to support the Day Center's workforce readiness initiatives. New paint, indoor planters, and acoustic treatments will enhance a sense of calm in the Adult Day Care Center. Two distinct marketing campaigns will increase awareness of Transitions' Midlands Helping Arms program and ask for much-needed bike, helmet, and lock donations.
"Our class is excited about the opportunity to help Transitions enhance their spaces and promote the myriad of services they provide," said LC22 Project Lead Nic Collins. "We're hopeful that sharing our project widely encourages others in our community to support Transitions and lead additional efforts to help our neighbors here in the Midlands."
LC22 Project Chair Kenneth Givens is confident this year's class project will be a success. "Transitions is a non-profit pillar in Columbia and has applied to be the class project seven years in a row, and this class selected their project for a reason," Givens shared. "The fact that this class has already built tremendous excitement around this project in the community by being on local radio talk shows, in local news articles, and other forms of media shows just how serious they are and how much they want to make an impact. The entire LC Board is excited to see what they can and will accomplish!"
