October 2019: City of Columbia City Council Candidates Discuss Opportunities and Priorities for their Campaign
Guest Speakers: Nine of the ten candidates for Columbia City Council Participated in the panel discussion highlighting their campaign focus. Candidates present: At-Large-Howard Duvall (Incumbent), Amadeo Geere, Dylan Gunnels, and Sara Middleton District Two Candidates: Edward McDowell (Incumbent), Catherine F. Bruce, and Anna Fonseca; District Three: Moe Baddourah (Incumbent), Will Brennan, and John Loveday.
Summary:
The Chamber's October Issues Forum featured the City Council Candidates who were asked to share their thoughts on the challenges and opportunities facing Columbia and their suggested solutions. The re-occurring themes were: safety, economic development, service fees, and economies of scale through potential consolidation of services.
Throughout the year, you can expect the Columbia Chamber to:
- Continue work with local elected officials to ensure the voice of businesses are heard as potential changes are discussed regarding business fees, consolidation, safety, and economic development.
- Continue the work of the Chamber's Public Policy Committee to seek input from Chamber Partners regarding business challenges and opportunities and utilize the feedback to enact potential change in local governance
- Continue to monitor the work of the area Councils at City of Columbia, Richland County, Lexington County and Forest Acres to stay current on their work and provide updated information to Partners as appropriate.
