Guest Speaker: Representative Beth Bernstein, District 78

The Chamber's June Issues Forum featured Representative Beth Bernstein who shared her thoughts on the upcoming election primary, voting locations and the Richland County Election Commission.
Representative Bernstein began her comments by acknowledging concern over the events of the weekend in Columbia and expressed her thoughts regarding our need to heal and move forward.
Key Messages Shared with Regards to Voting:
- The upcoming election is critical and citizens are encouraged to vote by requesting an absentee ballot by emailing Graham.terry@richlandcountysc.gov to request an absentee ballot. Votes must be placed by Friday, June 5.
- Citizens can also go to their district polling locations to cast their votes on Tuesday, June 9. Please check the locations below as polling places have been reduced due to the lack of poll workers due to the Covid-19 precautions.
- The Richland County Legislative Delegation appoints the Election Commission and Richland County Council funds the positions.
- The Richland County Legislative Delegation has and continues to encourage the Election Commission to develop solutions to run a smooth election starting with hiring a competent director.
- Citizens should not question whether their vote is being handling with integrity and competently.
- District 8 is a critical County Council race and is considered an open seat. Representative Bernstein and several key leaders are supporting candidate Hamilton Grant as he is a trusted small business owner who wants to provide leadership and integrity to the district.
- There are numerous vacant positions on local boards and commissions and people are encouraged to review and become involved through service.

- Continue to be involved in local government and provide insights for Chamber partners.
- Encourage Chamber partners to participate on local boards and commissions, especially our Leadership Columbia graduates.
