Ellen Weaver, SC State Superintendent of Education, joined the Columbia Chamber to speak at the monthly Breakfast Briefing to share her thoughts on the state of education, as well as opportunities and challenges the Department of Education faces. She commended the leadership in Columbia, the General Assembly, and teachers. More specifically, she shared an overview of the Department’s latest budget requests, revenue, professional development, and statewide student literacy training. Additionally, Superintendent Weaver highlighted the department’s newly developed program, "Project Raise Your Hand." The program was designed to send State department employees to schools throughout Richland One to study and gather information concerning the district. The goal is to eventually roll out the program throughout every district in the state.
